It can also be used to make your own liqueurs with Everclear (neutral grain spirit) or Vodka and aromatic flavourings of your choice such as fruits, spices and herbs to make Amaretto, Anisette, Cherry Liqueur, Coconut-Almond Liqueur, Coffee Liqueur, Orange Curacao, Strawberry Liqueur etc. Liqueurs and Cordials are fun and very easy to make. Complete unit is comprised of a riveted alembic pot with brass handles, swan neck alembic head with brass casing thermometer attached and condenser unit. This Copper Alembic Still was handcrafted by skilled Portuguese coppersmiths, each dimple hammered by hand. This design  has remained unchanged for centuries and may be attributed to the Moors whose influence in the Iberian Peninsula is still discernible to this day. Alembics are widely used in Spain and Portugal to make grappa or “aguardente”, as it is known in Portugal, from grape pomace. Its use has become widespread not only for the distillation of alcoholic spirits but also for the extraction of essential oils. The sensual curves and natural beauty of copper echo the splendours of the past. Construction This alembic is constructed in the old traditional way using rivets to join the top, belly and bottom of the alembic pot. All riveted joints are treated with a linseed oil paste for a watertight seal. A rye flour putty or luting is used between the onion head and the alembic pot for this same purpose. Any eventual leaks at the riveted joints are sealed with the rye flour putty - there are no adverse effects on the final product. All other joints are soldered using non-toxic lead free solder. The fitting for the spring thermometer is soldered directly into the alembic head for temperature readings of the ascending vapours. The condensing recipient is equipped with an outlet at the top.
