Description
A 5" tall aqua-glass rectangular-shaped WESTERN antique GONORRHOEA & GLEET CURE from SAN JOSE California. Bottle embossed: "THE / SPECIFIC / A NO. 1 / A SELF CURE / TRADE MARK". Condition: A crude early bottle with some light haze/etching, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Age: An early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's. Shipping: Buyer pays $5.01 S/H ~ more if international ~ We ship every Wednesday; our auctions end every Sunday night. So if you pay with PayPal by Tuesday evening, we will ship your item Wednesday. Payments received later than that will have to wait until the following week to ship. Your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. We find this bottle listed in the book '19th Century Medicine in Glass', where it is identified as a gonorrhoea and gleet cure, put out by August Schoenheit in San Jose, California, starting in 1884. August also put out That Wondrous Liniment, another embossed bottle from San Jose. You can see why it is embossed 'A Self Cure', some one using this cure to treat sexually transmitted diseases did not want to go public! For some reason we've found several of these in one geographic location here in Montana, an old mining town that, incidently had San Francisco financial backing to start up the mining in the 1870's. Even today in this small mining town, many of the streets are named after streets in S.F. A good early western cure here, check it out! Terms of Sale: Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. We put our 30+ years of experience in antiques to use in describing every item we list. Items are sold in an auction format and your bid is a contract. Please ask questions and completely read the item description before bidding. We have found that communication is the key to successful transactions. Returns: See details at bottom of the page. Insurance: Insurance is mandatory for sales that are $100 or over, and optional for sales under $100. Ebay is a little behind times on the insurance charges. A seller has to guess what the insurance cost will be as it is based on the final sales cost which, is impossible to know in an auction. Insurance will be quoted on invoice once auction is over, it will be the actual insurance fee based on the actual sale price. So you may want to consider this if you usually pay before you receive an invoice. If you pay before receiving the invoice, we will take this to mean that you elect to forego insurance. If you elect to forego insurance and do not receive your item within two weeks of posted ‘payment received’ date, let us know and we will confirm shipment date and, if needed, provide a copy of the postal receipt as proof of shipping. But beyond this, we have no way of tracking an uninsured item through the US Postal Service once it has been shipped, so you will have to take it up with your Post Office. We will not refund uninsured shipments nor will we engage in endless email correspondence on the matter. We package very carefully and always use the USPS for delivery. Please check our feedback comments to confirm our packaging history. International Shipping: We have enjoyed shipping antique bottles all over the world and are happy to offer our bottles to international bidders. We will only put the actual sale price as the declared value on the custom forms, and we will not mark the customs form ‘gift’. Our auctions state that shipping is ‘more if international’, please feel free to contact us before bidding for an international shipping estimate. We will require insurance on international purchases over $100 which means the package must be shipped Global Priority at a higher shipping cost. If international bidder requests, we can insure lesser valued items, but be prepared, this usually comes at a very high cost. Thank you!
