Description
jessewallut Store   Lot of 65 Lapp Insulators !! 80yr old vintage antiques You are bidding on a total of 65 Lapp Insulators. Only the hand sized brown ones as pictured are offered in this auction.  The larger ones and the clear ones in the background of some of the pictures will be offered in future auctions. These have been going on eBay for around $5.00 and up plus shipping.  I have even seen people making small piggy banks out of them going for $20.00 a piece.  They are 80 year old vintage antiques.  As with anything of this age, some of these insulators have scuffs, scratches, and small nicks but all look to be in pristine condition.  Pictures speak a thousand words so what you see is what you get.  I tried to get different angles and close-ups so you can make a more informative decision of what you are getting into.  Please note the relative size of these insulators as compared to the size of your hand. If I'm not mistaken of the history of these items, they were developed in the late 1920's by the Lapp Insulator Company as a glaze-welded post insulator.  Before their invention, insulators were screwed onto wood or metal pins mounted in the crossarm to secure them.  These post insulators are one-piece solid or hollow core porcelain columns with multiple petticoats or skirts from top to bottom. They were mounted directly on the pole or crossarm and bolted in place. From around 1915 on, the porcelain insulator virtually replaced glass on all electrical distribution, even at low voltages, as the superiority was demonstrated in both insulation quality and strength.  Their performance also was superior to pin-type insulators, and by the 1960's they found widespread use on power lines everywhere.  As with the glaze-welded process, you can see that these are very nice shiny porcelain insulators.  With the right imagination you can use these as any number different applications and possible major money makers.  I could see these used as nice decorative paper weights.  They could have a small rectangular slot cut into the top of them and be used as piggy banks.  If you were to cut a circular hole in the top of them you could mount a nice lamp kit into these as they could make sturdy lamp bases to where you would be able to hide all electrical wires.  With the same similar hole (probably a bigger hole), you could make these into decent decorative flower pots.  Maybe you might see them as candle holders or possibly heated fragrance holders.  You could also picture these as book ends to hold your rows of books in place.   Heck, you can also use these as they were intended, to insulate poles/posts from electrical currents from heavy duty electrical wiring.  Don't quote me on this but I think that they should be able to handle up to 20 kilovolts, possibly more. Sixty-five of these weigh almost exactly 100lbs.  I will be making a palletized 1x4 custom crate with Styrofoam packed all around every one of them.  I estimate the crate and Styrofoam to be around another 25lbs so shipping prices will be derived from an estimated package size of 36”x 24”x24” at a grand total of 125lbs.  Insurance is strongly advised but is optional.       Even at $3.00 a piece (65 x 3 = $195) you are getting a great deal on these with a starting bid of $150.  Keep in mind that these have been going for $5 a piece and higher.  Good luck and happy bidding!!! Also, I have no problem if you want to arrange local pickup to 64735 (Clinton, Missouri) or to 65301 (Sedalia, Missouri) to save on shipping.   Please ask any and all questions before the close of the auction.  I will try to answer them as quick as possible. Thanks and God Bless!!!  Certain images and/or photos used in this template are the copyrighted property of JupiterImages and are being used with permission under license.
