Description
This auction is for one (1) RARE DOVELL'S STONEWARE MASTER INK BOTTLE -- with ORIGINAL LABEL and cork stopper!   This ink bottle is in near mint condition, with no chips, cracks, or dings anywhere!  In gorgeous tones of light and medium browns -- WOW! (Pictures do not accurately reflect the color variants -- must be in-hand to be fully appreciated!) [I am listing additional inks and bottles in my other auctions -- check 'em out!]  This is a "gotta get me" bottle -- for both novice and invested collectors alike!  Great piece of tangible history!  This early master ink bottle is beautiful, with irregularities from the making that collectors have come to desire -- WOW! This little gem has 95% of its original label -- all very fragile, but legible!  This is a rare find in color, condition, and completeness!  Treasure measures approximately 7 1/4"h! Great acquisition for anyone collecting stoneware, bottles, or inks. Label is fragile, but only missing upper left corner (the rest of letter D), and a few nibbles and corner tips around the edge.  In fancy lettering, label reads:  DOVELL'S/ BLUE-BLACK/ COPYING FLUID/ THIS INK IS SIMILAR TO FLUID, WILL GIVE SEVERAL/ PLAIN IMPRESSIONS, AND COPY AT ANY TIME/ NEVER THICKENS IN ANY CLIMATE. (I don't know if there's any contents, residual or otherwise in this bottle, but I suspect, if there is, it thickened.) LONDON & NEW YORK./ with fancy border around it. This company was prevalent in the mid-1800s. It's manufactory in New Jersey was completely destroyed in 1869 by a devastating fire. On a rare occasion, one often comes across one of these beautiful bottles, but is unable to attribute it to maker because it lacks label.  Incredible find for the collector of inks and master inks, in stunning color, condition, and completeness -- a definite requisite for collectors of antique inks/master inks, stoneware/pottery, Dovell's items, and antique bottles in general. Low starting price and no reserve make this one you just can't afford to pass by! Please see pictures for details. Photos are with flash and without, so there may appear to be some color discrepancies that don't really exist. If there are any questions about pictures or information, requests must be made prior to auction's end. NOTE: SPECIAL OFFER:  Buy any (3) or more of my ink bottles -- I'll throw in shipping FREE! (deal applies to US buyers only)All items sold "as is/as described" and guaranteed original. You have a 7 day return if not as described. S&h varies due to zip code.  Am more than willing to combine auctions to save the winning bidder S&H costs.  Not responsible for damage if no insurance taken. It is the responsibility of the buyer to request insurance at time of invoicing. We can not be responsible for lost or damaged items once they are posted. Free insurance for all won items over $100.00! Maine residents add 5 % sales tax if not re-sale number. To be fair, payment must be received within 10 days of invoicing.
