(1) ORIGINAL BACCARAT CRYSTAL UNOPENED DECANTER WITH 70cl REMY MARTIN LOUIS XIII GRANDE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC and a RETAIL STORE DISPLAY CASE which is perfect for the RIGHT corner of your bar SIZES: 700 ml (70cl) Decanter of Unopened LOUIS XIII Grande Champagne Cognac MATERIALS: BACCARAT CRYSTAL on both LOUIS XIII DECANTERS MODELS: LOUIS XIII GRANDE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC DESCRIPTIONS: REMY MARTIN LOUIS XIII GRANDE CHAMPAGNE COGNAC in French made "BACCARAT" CRYSTAL DECANTER with a HARD SHELL PRESENTATION CASE. The hand blown crystal decanter is approximately 8.5" tall, with a 22 Kt gold label around the neck of the decanter. At the bottom of the decanter face is etched with Gold Foil Numbering and Lettering, disclosing the "Volume of the Contents" in Centiliters, Ounces, Alcohol Percentage and its Proof (80). INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION IS: (1) Hard Shell Satin Lined Presentation Case.(2) "UNOPENED" BACCARAT CRYSTAL DECANTER W/Gold Foil Label(3) Booklet for the Decanter Includes "MATCHING" Numbered Certificate O 1705 (4) BACCARAT CRYSTAL Fleur DE Li's Shaped DECANTER STOPPER(5) An "ADDITIONAL" Empty "BACCARAT" CRYSTAL DECANTER & CRYSTAL STOPPER(6) A "SECOND" Hard Shell Presentation Case for the Empty Decanter (7) *****AS A BONUS***** We are Including "GRATIS" a Black Lacquered Glass Enclosed Display Case with a "KEYED LOCK." The Retail Display was used to display both a Decanter of LOUIS XIII and a Bottle of XO. It would be best displayed on the Right end of your bar or against the wall on the right end. There is some slight lacquer deterioration on the right side of the Display and a small amount of wood expansion on the top right. (That's why it's Gratis!) The Gold Label on the Decanter States, "Louis XIII Remy Martin Grande Champagne Cognac". There is also a golden thread attached to the Original Gold Foil Covered Top Stopper with a Fleur DE Li's attached. Etched with Gold Foil Numbering & Lettering on the front of the bottle are multiple volume disclosures. The bottom of the decanter is etched with "E. Remy Martin & Cil, Baccarat, O 1705, Cognac 0.70L France". The book is numbered with a matching "O 1705" and the Crystal stopper etched "N 1705". The original LOUIS XIII Presentation Case is in excellent condition, the Decanter is "FULL" and the Seal is UNBROKEN"! This decanter is an exact replica of a flask discovered on the site of the battle which was fought at JARNAC in 1569 during the religious wars between the Catholics and the Protestants. The Royal Catholic Army was commanded by the Duke of ANJOU, brother of King CHARLES IX and later himself to ascent to the throne as KING HENRY III. The Protestants were also led by a member of the royal family, the Prince of CONDE who met his death in the course of the engagement. Both Generals had the Fleur DE Li's in their arms, so the appearance of the emblem on the decanter does not show to which of them it belonged. At the beginning of the last Century Monsieur REMY MARTIN, when riding over the ancient battlefield, met a peasant who while working had just brought to light the flask and two pistols. He at once acquired them and had the flask copied as a container for the rare Cognacs which he was then selling to the Courts of Central Europe (Austria-Hungary, Bavaria, Baden, Wurtemberg). A little later he presented the original to a museum in Paris. Until 1920 the reproductions were far from perfect. But the house of REMY MARTIN then entrusted the making of them to the "Cristallerie DE Baccarat", who, by methods which are now universally known and appreciated, have succeeded in producing an outstanding work of art. The shape and the decoration of the decanter show the influence of Italian Renaissance art, the taste for which was introduced into FRANCE by the Valois. Glassware recalling this style was long fashionable and especially so during the reign of LOUIS XIII. This led to the flask found at JARNAC being wrongly attributed to the period of LOUIS XIII, although this was in fact fifty years later than the real date of its manufacture, and to its being described as "THE LOUIS XIII DECANTER". the name which it has kept ever since.
