Description
Rare 1894 Skull Cobalt Poison Bottle Replica Last bottles of 2008! Bottles are made individually this year and not in a batch. This is the second casting of the season.Absolutely beautiful bottle! This is a solid resin replica of the famous figural 1894 4 1/2 inch Carlton Lewe Skull Poison Bottle. This is one of the most sought after poison bottles among collectors. A complete bottle in good condition is worth $2500 to $3000. This replica includes the cross-bone “feet” missing from many current replicas and tooled lip neck. The words “Poison” and “Pat App’d For” are embossed on the front and back of the bottle respectively. Rare 1894 Skull Cobalt Poison Bottle Replica The Story:This replica was made simply as an addition to my own private poison bottle collection. As a complete Carlton Lewe Poison Bottle is beyond my collection budget, this replica was an affordable alternative. This resin cast replica is a transparent cobalt blue. Looks like glass and looks like an original. Looks great with any poison bottle collection. Also makes a great paperweight and conversion piece. This replica was cast from two partial original Carlton Lewe bottles, both silicon slip cast and then combined into a prototype. Part of the crossbones bottom was re-sculpted as this part was missing on the original bottle. The final casting was made from solid transparent urethane resin tinted a beautiful cobalt blue. Part of the crossbones bottom was re-sculpted as this part was missing on the original bottle. No embossing on the bottle bottom. It is possible this was the variant that did not have embossing, though not enough of the original bottom was left to tell. The Details:I'm using a new process this year. The tooled lip is much better with less bubbles and degassing holes than previous replicas. There is still some lacing (small surface degassing holes) at the base of the neck and some small bubbles deep in the replica. Quite a few bubbles deep inside the neck. Please see the pictures for details and surface. This is a lovely bottle and looks great with my bottle collection (other bottles pictured are not included). The resin replica pictured is the actual bottle you are bidding on. Please note the bottle is backlit to enhance color, detail and transparency. I've also thrown in a keepsake box decorated with vintage poison labels and a fridge magnet made with a vintage label. (Magnet label may vary from photograph.)Boilerplate: Please insure your package! I am not responsible for damage from shipping. Due to attempted scams, all sales final. No refunds for "buyer's remorse." Do not bid unless you can complete the transaction. Note: Due to skyrocketing petroleum prices, the cost of resin has tripled in the past 6 months. The starting bid has increased proportionately. Most likely, this will be the last year of replicas. I will consider selling the prototype, mold and process at the end of the year. Contact me for details.
