Description
A tiny 2 3/4" tall scarce clear-glass rectangular-shaped GILLETT extract bottle with tiny embossed Owl perched on crescent moon! Front of bottle embossed with an OWL PERCHED on a CRESCENT MOON. Bottle embossed: "GILLETT / CHICAGO". Condition: Bottle in nice condition, has some content residue/haze, and a light flake from top edge of lip. NO cracks, dings, etc. Age: An early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's. Shipping: Buyer pays $5.01 S/H ~ more if international ~ We ship every Wednesday. So if you pay with PayPal by Tuesday evening, we will ship your item Wednesday. Payments received later than that will have to wait until the following Wednesday to ship, though we can possibly make exceptions. Regardless, your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. These Gillett food bottles are often misspresented as Owl Drug Co. bottles. They were actually put out by the Egbert W. Gillett Co., who started manufacturing flavoring extracts and baking powder in Chicago, in 1873. We've had about 7 different sizes of this type of bottle, all have the embossed Owl, but some have a little different embossing. I suspect that they actually came in about 10 sizes, from this tiny 1/2 oz. size to the large 10" tall, full-quart size, of which we know of only 3 in existence. There are some different shaped Gillett bottles that also have this owl-on-crescent-moon Trade Mark, but without the Gillett / Chicago embossing. Again, you will see seller's on ebay try to list these as owl drug bottles which they aren't. This littlest one is a tough one to find, check it out! Terms of Sale: Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. We put our 30+ years of experience in antiques to use in describing every item we list. Items are sold in a store front format and your ‘buy it now’ purchase is a binding contract. Please ask questions and completely read the item description before purchasing. We have found that communication is the key to successful transactions. Returns: See details at bottom of the page. Insurance: Insurance is mandatory for sales that are $100 or over, and optional for sales under $100. If you elect to forego insurance and do not receive your item within two weeks of posted ‘payment received’ date, let us know and we will confirm shipment date and, if needed, provide a copy of the postal receipt as proof of shipping. But beyond this, we have no way of tracking an uninsured item through the US Postal Service once it has been shipped, so you will have to take it up with your Post Office. We will not refund uninsured shipments nor will we engage in endless email correspondence on the matter. We package very carefully and always use the USPS for delivery. Please check our feedback comments to confirm our careful-packaging history. International Shipping: We have enjoyed shipping antique bottles all over the world and are happy to offer our bottles to international buyers. We will only put the actual sale price as the declared value on the custom forms. Our auctions state that shipping is ‘more if international’,please feel free to contact us before buying, for an international shipping estimate. We will require insurance on international purchases over $100 which means the package must be shipped Global Priority at a higher shipping cost. If international buyer requests, we can insure lesser valued items, but be prepared, this usually comes at a very high cost. Thank you!
