Vintage 4711 Koelnisch Wasser (Eau de Cologne) Bottle Start Price USD 9.99 Current Price USD 9.99 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, November 25, 2008 End Time Tuesday, December 02, 2008 Location Sandy, Utah See more about 'Vintage 4711 Koelnisch Wasser (Eau de Cologne) Bottle' Description At auction is this vintage eau de cologne bottle with markings.  In addition to the label as shown in the photo, there is, on the back of the bottle, the following inscription is embossed on the bottle itself:  Glockengasse 4711 Koeln a/Rh.  The label states "Koelnisch Wasser" and underneath that it says "Original Eau de Cologne."  Then the numbers "4711" and at the bottom it says, "aus der Koelnisch Wasser Fabrik 'Glockengasse No. 4711' Koeln a/Rh."  At the very bottom of the bottle is the capacity.  It says 16 ML.  The label is in very good condition except for a tine 1/8 inch tear at the very top just to the right of the glare in the photo.  A bit more than half of the original contents are still in the bottle and will be shipped to you that way.  For those interested, I offer a bit of history.  The word "Glockengasse" translates to English as Bell Street but is probably better translated as Carillon Lane or Alley.  The factory that produced this Koelnish Wasser (Water of Cologne) was situated along the Rhine River (a/Rh = am Rhein) at number 4711 Glockengasse.  Hence, the name 4711.  During World War II, as the allies were bombing major German cities, Cologne did not escape and the entire factory was completely leveled.  I saw the ruins in 1957 and in 2007 that factory had not been rebuilt on that site.  Free shipping to customers in the United States.  A reasonable shipping fee is charged to foreign buyers.        Place a Bid!
