This glass candy container is similar to the types that are more commonly shaped like trains, planes, pistols, etc.  This is, however, the first time we have ever seen this paticular shape.  The glass sphere is an estimated 1.75 inches in diameter, and is embossed with lines of latitude and longitude, and rough outlines of the continents.  The metal cap is located in the middle of North America, and is marked "OUR COUNTRY."  The orb is held at the poles by a small version of a metal globe stand.  The item stands 4.25 inches tall.  The sphere is free to rotate on its axis, and there is an opening in the calibrated arch, which allows the cap to pass. There are no identifying markings on this item, other than the wording found on the cap, and a "PAT.APPL'D FOR" notation on the inside of the base.  It is in very good condition.  The glass appears to have been hand blown into a form; leaving a thicker area of glass opposite the opening.  Whether accidental or intentional, this spot of excess glass causes the globe to park itself with the cap pointing upwards.
